TVING Drama I Am a Running Mate Postpones Release Just a Week Before Premiere

The Upcoming TVING drama I Am a Running Mate has unexpectedly postponed its release just a week before its scheduled premiere.
On February 25, TVING officially announced on its website, “The TVING original series I Am a Running Mate has had its release date changed due to programming adjustments.”
Originally set to premiere on March 6, Running Mate is a high school political drama that follows No Se-hoon (played by Yoon Hyun-soo), a student who becomes the target of ridicule after an unfortunate incident. However, when he is nominated as the vice-presidential candidate for the student council election, he navigates a world of political maneuvering and scheming to secure victory.
The drama had been actively promoted with posters and teaser trailers, heightening anticipation among viewers. However, the sudden decision to delay its release so close to the premiere has caught many by surprise.
On February 26, TVING explained the delay in a statement to Star News, saying, “As part of our programming strategy, we have decided to adjust the release schedule for Running Mate. Given the constantly evolving competition in the industry, we are reconsidering the optimal release timing for one of TVING’s major original productions.”

The platform further clarified, “Once the new release date is confirmed, we will provide an update. Additionally, instead of a weekly release, the drama will now be made available in its entirety at once to enhance viewer engagement.”
Meanwhile, I Am a Running Mate marks the directorial debut of Han Jin-won, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay as a co-writer of Parasite. His extensive experience, including working on Okja, has raised expectations for a well-crafted script and a compelling storyline. The drama also brings together an experienced production team behind films like Midnight Runners and Parasite, ensuring high production quality.
Starring rising actors Yoon Hyun-soo, Lee Jung-sic, Choi Woo-sung, Hong Hwa-yeon, Lee Bong-jun, and Kim Ji-woo, I Am a Running Mate promises to deliver an exciting and meaningful viewing experience.
The production team previously shared their vision for the drama, stating, “Through the rollercoaster-like journey of an ordinary boy over the course of a month, we hope viewers will reflect on their past, reconsider their present, or find the courage to move forward into the future. We aim to offer a meaningful and entertaining experience to everyone who watches.”
