The highly anticipated K-drama Newtopia, starring Kim Jisoo and Park Jung Min, has officially premiered—and it’s already making history. On its debut day, the series became the most-watched show on Coupang Play, setting a new record for viewership on the platform.
Based on Han Sang Woon’s novel Influenza, Newtopia follows soldier Jaeyoon and his girlfriend Youngjoo, who must battle through a zombie-infested high-rise in Seoul after their breakup. As chaos unfolds, Jaeyoon evolves from an insecure man into a determined leader, while Youngjoo fights to survive, growing stronger with each challenge.
Starring Park Jung Min and Jisoo in the lead roles, the series features a talented ensemble cast, including Kim Joon Han, Im Sung Jae, Kim Chan Hyung, Lee Hak Joo, Kwon Seung Woo, Kim Sang Heun, and Tang Jun Sang. Directed by Yoon Sung Hyun, the drama is co-written by Ji Ho Jin and Han Jin Won.
Kim Jisoo, known for her powerful performances, takes on the role of a resilient woman determined to survive against all odds, while Park Jung Min portrays a man who refuses to give up hope, risking everything to reunite with the love of his life. Their on-screen chemistry and gripping storyline have already captivated audiences, fueling discussions online and heightening anticipation for the upcoming episodes.
Coupang Play announced that its new original series, Newtopia, had a record-breaking debut, becoming the most-watched premiere on the platform. Released just a day earlier, the show quickly amassed an impressive number of views. The first two episodes are now available for streaming.
The series also launched globally on Amazon Prime Video, drawing massive attention. Much of its success is credited to the star power of BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Park Jung Min, whose strong screen presence continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
The first two episodes of Newtopia introduce the central characters, Jae Yoon (Park Jung Min) and Young Joo (Kim Jisoo), laying the groundwork for an intense and emotional journey. Jae Yoon, a soldier in the military, deeply misses his girlfriend, while Young Joo, newly entering the workforce, feels overwhelmed by her career struggles. Their relationship becomes strained as Jae Yoon’s constant need for reassurance clashes with Young Joo’s growing independence.
Just as they decide to take a break, Seoul is thrown into chaos as a terrifying zombie outbreak engulfs the city. Separated and forced to survive on their own, Jae Yoon and Young Joo must navigate a world turned upside down, unsure if they’ll ever reunite.
Fans have praised Newtopia for its fresh take on the zombie genre, blending dark humor with emotional depth. The unexpected twists, strong performances, and gripping storytelling have left audiences eagerly anticipating the next episodes.
